Condolences for the family and friends of Jim Arkins

We received sad news that one of our founding members and Life Member Jim Arkins passed way on Wedneday 17 October 2012 at SOPAC while attending his grandaughter’s school carnival.

For over 40 years Jim volunteered himself to athletics, serving as the first Treasurer for our club in 1971/1972 which he held for 2 years, moving then to Registrar for 2 years, then onto Publicity and Championships.  In 1975/1976 he took on the role as Zone Co-ordinator, and was instrumental in setting up Little Athletics in Winston Hills.  Our club would not be where it is today without the dedication that Jim provided over 12 years of service and he received our first ever Life Membership.   During the 1978/1979 season Jim joined the LANSW Board of Management in the role of Treasurer, a role he held for 18 years.  In 1985 Jim recieved Life Membership of LANSW, and was the recipient of an Australian Sports Medal in December 2000, and was one of the current NSW State Team selectors.

A father, grandfather and dedicated volunteer, our thoughts and condolences are with Jim’s family and friends.
