Selection in Zone Championships is the first step towards State Track and Field Championships. Hills District is a member of the North West Metropolitan Zone and competes against five other clubs (Hawkesbury City, Kings Langley, Quakers Hill, Riverstone and Winston Hills) at these championships. For further information visit the Little Athletics web site at www.laansw.com.au.
From Zone, the first four (4) place getters in each event progress to the Regional Championships and represent the North West Met Zone against three other zones (Northern Met, North East Met and Central Coast) in Region 1. From Region, the first three place getters in each event progress to State
Championships (subject to LAA rotational selection rule) representing Region 1against the other four regions within NSW.
Before being selected for Zone Championships, each athlete must have competed three (3) times at Centre Meetings, for that particular event. Exceptions may be made if injury, illness or late registration makes this requirement impracticable. However, the event must be competed twice.
Athletes are limited to a maximum of four events and each Centre is allowed five entries per event. Should an athlete excel in more than four events, it is usual to discuss the likely choice with the athlete concerned, their parents and the Age
Manager before the choice is made. The under 13s, 14s and 15s age groups are limited to four events, but there is no limit on the number of Centre entries per event.
As Zone Championships cover two days, the athletes would be wise not to choose four events that are programmed on the one day.
As Under 7 athletes only compete in Zone Championships, the top 3 finishers in each event receive medals. Under 8 athletes continue to Regional Championships, only, whilst our older athletes have the opportunity to continue to the NSW State titles.
Please note, there has been a new ruling adopted last season: Reserves to finals, athletes (and teams), must proceed to Marshalling when called, in case a finalist does take up their position. As the marshalling official will not search for reserves, the first reserve in order that is present will be automatically placed in the absentee’s position/lane. So the underlying rule is: RESERVES IN FINALS GO TO MARSHALLING REGARDLESS!

The first four placegetters in every individual event at the Zone Championships qualify to compete in the Region Championships. These Championships are held on the third full weekend in February, and represent a much higher level of competition.
Our Region consists of competitors from the Northern Beaches to Hawkesbury and from the Central Coast to the Hills. All will be vying for a place at the State Championships. As previously stated Under 8s do not progress beyond Region, however, the top 3 place getters in each event at Region receive medals.

Wagga Wagga |

Athletes from ages 7 – 15 may enter in
this event that is a great time for the whole family. Athletes compete in
the full range of nominated events and are awarded points for their
performance in each event. Points are calculated using a modified pentathlon
scoring system. The top 8 participants in each group receive an award. Under
15 athletes have the added opportunity of being one of two boys and girls to
represent NSW as multi event athletes at the National Championships.
State Multi is a fantastic social time for the club. Accommodation has been
booked for families so that kids can enjoy time with their friends and the
Saturday night BBQ is a great get together for parents and families. Look
out for further announcements. Its not an expensive weekend as parents cater
for themselves for most food items etc. Your early booking is strongly
advised.

To reach the State Championships is an honour in itself. It presents the opportunity to line up against competitors from all parts of NSW.
The first three or four placegetters at the Region Championships qualify to compete in the NSW State Championships. (Because there are five Regions in the State, the number to qualify from each Region varies between three and four, on a rotational basis.)
Those who win a place gain a coveted State medal. Under 13s have the added incentive of gaining selection in the NSW team to compete at the National Championships.

Crestwood Reserve |
|
The season Commences on Sunday 17 April and each Sunday thereafter at 10 a.m. at Crestwood Reserve (Opposite Crestwood Public School). To improve our hill running we will seek an additional reserve. Our season concludes on Sunday 26th of June with a presentation day, and BBQ, with each athlete being presented with a participation medal.
All registered members of Hills
Little A’s are eligible to participate in the training sessions that is also
enjoyed by neighbouring Little Athletic Centers. Compared to the summer track
season, it is relatively unstructured and relaxed and lasts for about 1 hour. The season culminates with the State Cross Country Championships on July 3, 2010. |
